Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father left her family. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to the word association. Ford was intrigued by the field of acting during her teens and joined National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she would not be a good fit there. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement on her third attempt, applied and won a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however at the time she was already making her TV debut on the 1991 season in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Through the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate received recognition for her stand-up comedy and was added to her resume in 1996.
